## Executive summary

Aqueous (water-based) latex on zipper tape. Latex adhesives shrink fabrics, can be contaminated by some storage and application materials, and are corrosive to some metals.[^1] Non-porous faces: latex polarity should match the joined surfaces.[^2] Continuous-filament nylon and polyester: poor mechanical bond without abrasion or a chemical bridge.[^3]

## Shrink and contamination

Handbook latex-adhesive disadvantages vs solvent: poorer water resistance; subject to freezing; shrinks fabrics; wrinkles or curls paper; can be contaminated by some materials used for storage and application; corrosive to some metals; slow drying.[^1] Practical Guide: aqueous shrink on textile.[^4]

Scrap-test shrink on the same woven tape before committing a garment edge.

## Polarity on non-porous tape

Latex polarity should match surfaces to be joined. Handbook polarity bands: high (NBR, XNBR, XSBR, PSBR); medium (CR, PVC); low (NR, SBR, BR, IIR).[^2]

Porous cotton: particle-size flow into pores; electrostatic charge must not repulse the latex. See liquid textile bonding.[^4]

---

## Nylon filament limits

Cotton: protruding fiber ends embed in the rubber matrix. Rayon, nylon, polyester: continuous filament, smooth waxlike surface, poor mechanical bonding unless abraded or chemically bridged.[^3]

Industrial analog: abrasion plus latex–casein dip; combined effect greater than either treatment alone under dynamic conditions.[^3] “Rubberise the tape” reads as that industrial prep strategy.
