
# Printing & Surface Decoration on Latex Sheet

## Executive summary

NR sheet stretches like an elastomer, not like cotton. Decoration must survive large strain without cracking or peeling. Industrial stretch-ink patents use **polyurethane/polyester elastomer vehicles** with pigment dispersions on **latex rubber** substrates.[^2] Use this when judging whether an ink or transfer method matches NR elongation, and when surface finish (gloss vs matte) is ignored in prep.

## Why NR sheet is a hard print substrate

Vulcanized film must stretch to at least **twice** its length under stress and recover.[^1] Rigid textile inks assume the wrong substrate class until proven otherwise.

## Stretch-ink architecture

Stretchable ink patents combine polyester, **polyurethane elastomer**, pigment dispersion, and surfactants for **latex rubber** substrates with high elongation without cracking (US10487228 family).[^2]

## QC language

ASTM D751 adhesion, D3389 abrasion, and D1876 T-peel provide **method classes** for coating and flexible bonds.[^3][^4][^5]

## Surface prep literacy
