> **Safety.** Solvent rubber cement: fire and fume class.[^1] Product SDS. [Sheet adhesives](/literature-reviews/sheet-adhesives-and-seam-integrity). [Sheet ventilation](/literature-reviews/sheet-ventilation-solvent-exposure).

## Executive summary

Sheet rims use NR tube/strip or rubberised textile tape with solvent-cement culture. Solvent column: water resistance, open time.[^1] On porous tape the bond is mainly mechanical if adhesive enters pores; on slick faces polarity must match.[^3][^4]

## Material families

| Family | Risk cue |
| --- | --- |
| NR tube / strip | Gauge match; cement open time |
| Rubberised textile tape | Prep — [Sheet latex–textile bonding](/literature-reviews/sheet-latex-textile-bonding) |
| Woven cotton binding | Mechanical key if cement enters the weave |
| Smooth filament tape | Polarity match required |

## Decision cues

```text
straight high-stress → strip/tube
tight curve → rim must stretch with the sheet
porous → mechanical key | slick → polarity match
solvent cement → adhesives review
```

Failed rims: [Sheet delamination](/literature-reviews/sheet-delamination-seam-failure).

## Deep dives

<details>
<summary>Deep dive: Polarity and porous flow</summary>

Non-porous: match polarity. Porous: flow into pores; charge must not impede. Higher filler reduces porous flow.[^3][^4]
