Sheet-based work buys calendered or catalog sheet (ISO tolerance scope). Liquid latex work forms film from liquid via spread, cast, or coagulant dip — handbook physics apply. The same mm label on two products does not imply matched modulus, aging package, or formation quality.

What does calendered mean?

Calendered sheet is pressed smooth between heated rollers at the factory to even thickness. You buy it ready to cut and glue — you did not form it from a bottle.


Sheet-based work

Calendered sheet ships under ISO 3302-1 dimensional tolerance classes. Vendor thickness menus (often ~0.25–1 mm) are catalog cues — read the spec sheet for your supplier’s ST class and finish options.

Shop culture on this path usually means solvent rubber cement for seams.


Liquid latex work branches

  • Lab glass spread (Anode/Teague methods) — handbook lab technique for evaluation films.
  • Belt spreading — continuous industrial sheet production (patent lineage).
  • Coagulant dip — economics favor coagulant above ~8 mil dry thickness.

Buy vs make

Buy when you want repeatability without dip-plant controls, known modulus from the mill, and immediate cut-and-glue workflow.
